How to Care for Your Lingerie

Lingerie is such delicate garments, made of fibres like lace, mesh, wire and boning, to properly provide the support you need. Lingerie can be a costly investment and you want them to last as long as possible
To maintain the quality and fit of your lingerie so you can keep them looking fresh and fitting properly longer, we have a few recommendations for you xx

Washing

This is probably the most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to making sure your lingerie stays pristine for as long as possible.

La Femme Petite recommends you hand wash your lingerie with care in cool water, using sensitive, liquid laundry detergent that is gentle on delicate fabrics and maintains colour over time. Though we also recommend using a laundry bag for washing to prolong the lifespan of your garments, handwashing will definitely give your lingerie the love it deserves. Especially lingerie with underwires could get bent out of shape.

If you do use a lingerie bag to wash your lingerie, make sure you fasten the hooks. This will avoid them getting caught in other garments in the washing bag and damaging the hooks or other garments.

Drying

Dry in the shade and out of direct sunlight. The heat & light of the sun will cause the elastics to deteriorate and will also cause fading

It’s highly recommended that you dry your lingerie flat on a drying rack. La Femme Petite believes it is best practice to allow air to circulate around your lingerie so try and avoid dying your lingerie on a solid flat surface.

If you need to hang them to dry, hang them from the front panel to avoid any stretching.

Storage

La Femme Petite recommend that you store your lingerie flat in a spacious drawer, with the cups gently inserted into each other for additional support.

All mesh lingerie without wires can be stored in La Femme Petite satin pouches to avoid them getting tangled or crushed.

Try not to fold bras in half or turning the cups inside out. Make sure you only wear them one day at a time and wash them after as per our recommendations.

Lingerie should always be cared for with a light, gentle touch, from washing and drying to storing and travelling. The way that you handle your lingerie can impact its performance and lifespan – this is why it’s important to never tumble dry, bleach, dry clean or iron your lingerie.
